After a surprisingly sunny March – with highlights like our new wine bar’s very first birthday bash – we’re officially stepping into spring. But as much as we’ve been waiting for it, April can feel a bit overwhelming. Suddenly, the city’s packed, and everything’s happening at once – it’s all a bit of a shock. We feel you! That’s why this month’s theme is WARM-UP – with tips to help you gear up for sunny days ahead. And of course, to make sure April is completely FOMO-free.
SOCIAL WARM-UP
There is no better way to kick off the social season than going all in from the start. Countryklubben – a country-themed pop-up club with secret guest artists (let’s just say: First Aid Kit and Markus Krunegård previously made an appearance) – is back with their 6th edition. Dust off your best boots, grab a cow-patterned vest and get ready to mingle with Stockholm’s coolest crowd. After that, we guarantee all upcoming social activities will feel like a breeze. DINNER PARTY WARMP-UP
As people are going social again, dinner gatherings are on the rise – making it the perfect time to brush up your wine knowledge. At NOFO, we’re convinced the best way to become wine-wise is by sipping and learning at the same time – meaning another tasting is on the horizon. In the spirit of spring, we’ve decided to leave red wine behind this time and give the spotlight to Sauvignon Blanc.
FLOWER SEASON WARM-UP
With the most colorful season around the corner, April is the ideal time to learn how to work with flowers to make the most of them as decor, table settings or a thoughtful gift. One great opportunity to do so is by joining the flower workshop at Södermalm-based Brandstationen, where floral artist Emily Bratt will share her best tips and guide you in creating beautiful bouquets.
LITERAL WARM-UP
Although it’s technically spring, there’s a reason why April weather is a thing. With a little trigger warning here, we’d therefore like to end this letter with a tip on how to handle the day SNOW makes its inevitable comeback. To not only survive, but even enjoy the freezing days, the best way is to throw on your winter coat one last time and head to Lilla Espresso Bar. This amazingly decorated, Italian-style coffee shop at Hornsgatan feels like walking into a movie.
REDEFINING THE NIGHT: CLUBBING 2.0
In recent months, the debate over the so-called ‘club death’ has become a hot topic, sparking widespread conversation worldwide. Everywhere – in newspapers, podcasts, on TV – there’s been talk of nightclubs shutting down due to dwindling visitor numbers. Given the notion that the new generation isn’t as into partying, this development isn’t entirely surprising – but it’s still unsettling. Even iconic cities like Berlin are seeing their nightlife slowly fade away.
But just because some classic clubs in Stockholm are facing the same fate, it doesn’t mean the city’s club scene is dead. It’s simply evolving. Today, the best and most exciting Stockholm clubs don’t follow the traditional format. Instead, they come in the form of pop-ups – occurring a few times a year, often with little warning and mysteries surrounding everything from location to artists and DJs. All you really know is that it’s happening. But honestly, that’s all the information you need, as these events make Stockholm’s nightlife feel more alive than ever.
Feeling intrigued? Good. You should! And we’ve got you covered. Aside from Countryklubben, which we wrote about in this month’s newsletter, here are two other pop-up clubs in Stockholm to keep an eye on.
PLANET IBIZA
Planet Ibiza is one of those things that simply must be experienced. Because that’s exactly what it is: an experience. Describing it as an indie pop-infused mass hypnosis is probably the closest we can get, but even that doesn’t do it justice. Once there, you can expect everything from raves and knight costumes to maracas, flying fruit, and spontaneous weddings on stage. Most importantly, though, are the blonde wigs that you somehow end up with, whether you brought one or not.
To make sure you don’t miss their next event, follow Planet Ibiza on Instagram and be quick on the draw when tickets go live.
Tequila Club
Tequila Club is both a pop-up and a pop club, with a strong focus on live performances, although the artists remain a secret until the very moment they step onto stage. But while selling tickets to a concert-club without revealing the lineup might seem like a risky move, it’s easy to understand why Tequila Club keeps succeeding when looking back at their past events. Because with artists like Veronica Maggio, Daniel Adams Ray and Ellen Kraus, disappointment is hardly ever on the agenda. In addition to an obviously incredible music experience, you can also expect a crowd of dance-hungry people and, of course, plenty of tequila.
