How to: EVENT SEASON
1. WHAT TO WEAR
In Sweden, we tend to keep things casual – sometimes too casual. The dress code for most events is almost always a vague “sommarfin” (summer pretty), and while the relaxed guidelines are well-meaning, they often leave you standing in front of your closet, completely stumped.
To make things easier, here are three sommarfin-approved pieces to build your outfit around:
4. WHAT TO BRING
If you’re attending instead of hosting, bringing something for your host is always a classy move, especially if they’re serving that amazing food. While flowers are nice, this is also a chance to stand out with a gift that’s a little more memorable (and doesn’t wilt in two days). Here are three crowd-pleasing options:
- L:a Bruket Hand Wash Bergamot: A luxurious hand wash, but just as much an interior object.
- Crema al pistacchio: Needs no further description.
- Disco bulb! What’s not to love about receiving that as a gift?
5. WHAT TO SMALL TALK ABOUT
Events are full of encounters with people you sort of know. You see them a few times a year, never really know what to talk about, and your only goal is to glide through the interaction painlessly. Therefore, here are some timely conversation topics that will work in almost any mingling situation:
- The absurdly bad May weather (aka weather talk 2.0)
- Married at First Sight Sweden. Our nation’s unofficial campfire. Even total strangers (or slightly boring acquaintances) tend to light up when this one comes up.
